Background

Amazon Bedrock AgentCore, launched in 2023, provides a foundation for developers to create AI agents that can execute multi-step tasks. Previously, agents could process data, generate content, or trigger actions via APIs, but direct payment handling was missing. The new feature bridges that gap.

By integrating with Amazon Pay and third-party payment processors, the agents can now authorize transactions, verify funds, and complete purchases without human oversight. This positions AWS as a key player in the burgeoning agentic automation market.

Key Features of Agentic Payments

• Direct Purchase Authorization: Agents can initiate payments via natural language commands or predefined workflows.
