Universe's End: New Shooter 'AlteredBlood+' Turns Enemy Blood Into Lifeline

Breaking News: 'AlteredBlood+' Announced — Blood Is Your Only Hope in a Dying Universe

A new movement shooter, AlteredBlood+, has been unveiled, setting players in the final moments of the cosmos where the blood of enemies is the key to survival. Announced today by indie studio Void Forge Games, the title places you as a Reaper, a biomechanical creature created by the sentient megastructure MOTHER that has consumed nearly all of the observable universe.

According to lead designer Elara Voss, the game's core loop revolves around 'soaking in the blood of your foes to fuel your abilities.' In a statement, Voss explained: Every drop of blood is precious. It's not just a resource — it's the reason you can keep moving, keep fighting, and maybe find a way to survive at the end of everything.

Players will navigate through platforming gauntlets, using speed and agility to evade enemies while draining their life force. The official timeline puts the story in the year 4,199,245,344,263,242,348,389,893,582,349,373 CE, when MOTHER has consumed 99.99999997% of the observable universe.

Background: The End of All Things

The game’s lore begins in 3232 CE with the launch of MOTHER, a self-replicating megastructure aimed at the center of space. Over billions of years, it expanded unchecked, devouring galaxies. By the time AlteredBlood+ takes place, only a tiny fraction of the universe remains unabsorbed — and humanity clings to that sliver.

You play as a Reaper, one of MOTHER’s creations, but built with a purpose: harvest the blood of other life forms. Why? Because blood is the only substance capable of giving Reapers the energy to resist MOTHER’s consumption. “It’s a desperate, chaotic struggle,” said game director Marcus Kael. “You’re fighting not just enemies, but the ticking clock of the universe’s death.”

Adding to the surreal premise, all Reapers are anthropomorphic animals — essentially ‘furries.’ The developers say this design choice emphasizes the biological, instinctual nature of the blood-drinking mechanic. We wanted something that felt primal, almost feral. The fur and animal traits make the harvesting feel visceral, not just mechanical, Voss added.

What This Means: A New Subgenre of Survival Shooters

AlteredBlood+ blends movement shooter mechanics — think Doom Eternal or Titanfall 2 — with a blood-as-resource system that forces constant aggression. Industry analyst Rina Chen of GameSight Analytics noted: This could redefine how we think about resource management in fast-paced shooters. The risk-reward loop of diving into enemy fire to replenish your health and abilities is incredibly compelling.

The title is expected to challenge player skill with intricate platforming sections and relentless enemies. Early previews highlight a dynamic AI that adapts to how aggressively you harvest blood. The 'flow' of combat may become a defining feature.

For gamers, it signals a growing trend of 'low-resource survival' shooters where every kill matters. “It’s not about ammo — it’s about stamina and health, both tied to the same pool: blood,” Chen explained. The end of the universe setting makes every kill feel meaningful. It’s apocalyptic in a literal sense.

No release date has been set, but Void Forge Games promises a closed beta later this year. For now, the game is listed on Steam, and a teaser trailer is available.
